“BLADDER & BOWELS – THROWING LIGHT ON A TABOO SUBJECT”

A presentation by ESU member Janet Browning in "L'Auberge de la Rose", followed by a lunch

12 Place de Gennes - 49700 - Doué la Fontaine (02 41 59 13 65)

The deadline for replies is Monday 7 September

Bladder & Bowels can be a taboo subject, but both can have a big impact on someone’s life if they go wrong.

However, things can be improved and even cured – often with very simple interventions.

Janet enjoyed a long and distinguished nursing career, culminating in what she describes as her favourite role: that of a Continence Nurse Specialist.

Qualifying as a nurse in 1984, Janet started her career at Leicester Royal Infirmary before transferring to District Nursing in the early 1990s. She gained her RGN qualification in 1996 and took on the position of running the community continence clinic in the city of Leicester.

In 2000, she achieved a First-Class Honours BSc in Community Health and became a District Nursing Sister, managing a team and caring for patients with complex, palliative and post-operative needs. After several other roles, including Community Matron and nursing home inspector, she returned to continence care.

From 2006 to 2018, Janet worked as a Continence Nurse Specialist for the University Hospital of Leicester NHS Trust, running two clinics a week alongside consultants, doctors and nurses. She recalls those twelve years as “an absolute pleasure”.
