Summer Concert
Saturday 27th June

Julie Dufour

The Château de la Buronnière, the home of members, Willemien and Pieter Van der Nat- Verhage, was the spectacular setting for our June event when 48 members and guests gathered on a beautiful summer afternoon for a musical evening followed by a picnic in the grounds.

Adrien Grand, pianist, and Sun. H. Kim, soprano, delighted the gathering with a 2 hour recital in the Long Gallery of the Château. The first half of the programme included works by Chopin, Faure, Caccini and Mozart. After a short interval, the mood changed and the audience was entertained by songs from the shows, such as “Midnight” from Cats by Andrew Lloyd Webber and “Over the Rainbow” by Harold Arlen and E. Harburg. There was something for all tastes and the setting, together with the quality of the entertainment ensured a magical summer evening for all who attended.

There followed a long, lazy picnic on the lawns overlooking the lake. The sound of music was replaced by the sound of chatter and laughter. Everyone present had been encouraged to bring a dish to share with others and the contents of several bottles won in the raffle were consumed. As dusk fell, it was time to leave and we drifted away.

“Thank you” to Adrien and Sun for the superb entertainment. “Thank you” to committee members for their part in the organization. Especially, “thank you” to our hosts for their generosity and for the hard work that had gone into preparations to conjure such a perfect evening.
