Treasure Hunt - September
A fine sunny autumn day greeted the 20 participants at Beaufort en Vallée to meet up with the organiser Terence O’Hara who was waiting with questionnaire ready for the 60 km round trip. As usual Terence had devoted several days to ensure that the tour would be interesting. Tim was kept busy as Terence’s assistant going most of the clerical work and are thanks are extended to both of these members.
The area to explore was mainly to the north of Beaufort, towards Baugé, Chaumont d’Anjou, and Lué, Cornillé les Caves, and le Guedeniau, an area to many of the members there, not so well known perhaps. Also included were Mazé, Brion, Bocé, Chartrené.
Every one exercised their visual abilities and imagination for the three or more hours needed to complete the course, not that every one was able or had time, to see everything.
Eventually all cars found their way to the restaurant La Vallée du Clairay, on the D59 north of Les Rosiers sur Loire; It proved to be quite a big batiment to take care of all the members on one table surrounded by a good crowd of locals there to enjoy their own festivities providing a good if noisy atmosphere. Terence duly announced that the winners were the Smalls with team mate Joan Homer, closely followed by the Turnbull’s team.
The restaurant is quite isolated but evidently well known, the service and food being pretty good and whilst every one was pretty tired when they left, there was much satisfaction that this popular yearly event had again lived up to its reputation.
