Christmas arrived a little early this year, for the members of the ESU Loire Valley. On the 8th December, the annual Christmas lunch was held at L'Auberge de la Sansonniere, Saint-Georges-des-Sept-Voies. Forty one members and guests enjoyed a delicious lunch, with wine and coffee, followed by traditional hot English mince pies.
The annual photographic competition was held; the four winning entries will be displayed on the ESU-LV website for a duration of 3 months for each. The honours this year went to:
First Prize: D Ash - "Saumur Chateau in the early morning mist".
Second Prize: D Ash - "On Golden Pond".
Third Prize: Tim de Alwis - "Ice Flows on the River Loire".
Fourth Prize: Jean Prunier - "L'oeil du Thouet".
A big thank you, to everybody who submitted photographs.
During the meal the members were entertained by John and Lynn Turnbull, who performed two small amusing sketches, which were rapturously received. After the meal Tony Oakley played his guitar very professionally and sang some folk songs; everyone happily joined in singing "Silent Night".
As always there was a Christmas raffle, with numerous prizes, which raised 174euros (a profit of 129euros). Thank you to all those who donated a prize.
At 4p.m. the event came to a close, with all agreeing, that once again the Christmas lunch had been very enjoyable and a great success.
