Annual Barbecue


On Sunday 5th August, the ESU held its summer barbecue, when, for a second time this summer, we enjoyed the hospitality of Irene and Mike Small in their beautifully renovated mill. The weather in the Loire valley region was wet and unwelcoming, except around the Moulin d'Olivet, where the sun shone intermittently on 36 ESU members, families and friends as they enjoyed drinks, nibbles and chatter in a relaxed and informal setting.

The fine weather lasted for most of the afternoon, through the raffle, which raised 130 euros for ESU funds, right up to the barbecue; at this point, the onset of rain persuaded the company to retire indoors where they enjoyed the meal that Irene and Mike had prepared. The gathering continued for an hour or so, when the party began to disperse.

Yet again, we are indebted to the Smalls for their hospitality, for their efforts in preparing and running the barbecue, and for their provision of such an attractive venue for the event.
