The
English-Speaking Union is an international charity that aims to promote "global understanding through the shared use of the English language." The ESU promotes a variety of activities such as debating, public speaking and student exchange programmes, conferences and seminars. It offers scholarships to encourage the effective use of the English language around the globe.
The Loire Valley branch of the ESU provides a range of opportunities for those in Anjou and surrounding regions who are interested in the English language as a medium for international communication and friendship. The branch's Annual General Meeting took place at Domaine de Presle, at Distre, Saumur, Saturday 13

The branch organises social events throughout the year, including barbecues, quizzes and treasure hunts, that help non-English speakers to become familiar with English language. These events are held at monthly intervals at a variety of different locations within the area; guests and non-members are welcome at these events. In addition, we are involved in funding
school debating and public speaking competitions.
