The Christmas meal is one of the highlights of the ESU calendar and the event this year certainly lived up to and surpassed all expectations. Fifty two members and guests gathered together at La Toque Blanche Restaurant in Les Rosiers-sur-Loire on 12 December for a festive lunch accompanied by a light hearted programme of entertainment - details.

Saturday 14th November forty-three members and guests met at the restaurant, La Gogane in Andard. As the meeting opened, we observed one minute of silence for the victims of the attacks in Paris during the previous evening. Our speaker was Marie-Françoise Adam, who talked to us about the Plantagenets and Richard Cœur de Lion - details.

Saturday 17th October saw twenty five members and guests gather for what turned out to be an exceptional lunch and an after-dinner presentation by a remarkable teenager from the Lycée Saint Martin in Angers - details.

The annual Treasure Hunt was held on the 26th September. The questions were once again set by Terence O’Hara. As usual they were cleverly thought out to ensure participants’ navigational and observational skills were stretched to the limit - details.

The ESU Loire Valley joined forces with the Bibliothèque Anglophone in Angers to present a stand at the Forum des Associations 2015 in Saumur on Saturday 12th September - details.

The annual barbeque was held on the 16th August in Saint Georges-sur-Layon. Philippe de Nombel was host to fifty-three members, friends and families who enjoyed the company, food and fine weather - details.

Twenty-two members and guests gathered together to enjoy a long leisurely summer afternoon on 25th July 2015. After an excellent meal at the “Cheval Blanc” in St. Pierre des Echaubrognes, the group then visited the Parc Oriental at Maulèvrier - details.

The Château de la Buronnière, the home of Willemien and Pieter Van der Nat-Verhage, was the spectacular setting for our June event when forty-eight members and guests gathered on a beautiful summer afternoon for a musical evening followed by a picnic - details.

A total of forty four members and guests attended the Indian themed evening at the home of Chantal and Alain Bertrand on Saturday 23rd May 2015 for a presentation entitled ‘Women of the Raj’ by Brian Freeland - details.

Fifty young people from around the world gathered in London between 11th and 15th May 2015 to take part in the annual ESU International Public Speaking Competition. Among them was the candidate representing France: Aymon Salvaing de Boissieux, a student at the Lycée Saint Martin in Angers- details.

May Day was deferred to the 2nd of May this year to ensure typical spring weather. In the event, ten determined walkers donned waterproofs and turned out, with a dog, to greet the spring - details.

On Saturday the eighteenth of April, a large party of members and their guests met at the Auberge de la Rose, at Doué-la-Fontaine. Our speaker, Alain Bertrand, gave a fascinating talk about the planning and construction of the channel tunnel - details.

The winner of the public speaking competition held on 14th March 2015 was Aymon Salvaing de Boissieux, a pupil at the Lycée St. Martin in Angers; the judges’ decision was unanimous. Our congratulations go to Aymon, to his teacher, Françoise Placé, and to his mentor, our own John Barritt. Aymon will now represent France in the International Public Speaking Competition which takes place at the Headquarters of the ESU, Dartmouth House, London, between 11th and 16th May 2015 - competition report.

The Annual General Meeting was held in the English Language Library, Angers, on the 13th March - details.

A party of members and guests had a fascinating visit to Le Vinaillou Biscuit Factory on the 28th February, followed by lunch at the Toque Blanche - details.

The first meeting of the year was held at the Bois de Délice restaurant in Chemellier on Saturday, 24th January 2015. Thirty members and guests enjoyed themselves in the quiz and in judging the entries for the picture competition - more details
